It’s easy to forget how much you accomplish in a year, until you take a moment to look back and take stock of all 365 days. Well, we looked at NVE Bank’s year, and what we were reminded of is that we have the best staff, communities, and partner organizations any Mutual Bank could wish for! From our community outreach, to education support programs, social media activity and more, NVE had a great 2013…so good, in fact, that it will take two blog posts to share it all! Here are some of the highlights of the year.
INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITIES
NVE Bank’s heritage is steeped in the tradition of building strong and healthy communities. Our mission to “make a difference” is firmly embedded in our culture of caring and exhibited in the thousands of hours employees volunteer to support charitable causes throughout the bank’s service areas. Members of NVE’s management team serve on the boards of local Chambers of Commerce, Rotary Clubs, The Salvation Army, bergenPAC, Bergen Community College, Giants of Generosity and many more northern New Jersey organizations. NVE also contributes a portion of its earnings annually to local non-profits, donating over $66,000 in 2013. Commitment to our customers and service to our communities by strengthening social and economic development – that’s the NVE difference.
Flat Rock Brook Nature Association Outstanding Corporate Supporter
NVE Bank was recognized at the Flat Rock Brook Nature Association’s 40th Anniversary Celebration as Outstanding Corporate Supporter. We sponsor many of the 150-acre nature preserve’s community education and conservation initiatives, and NVE employees volunteer at the numerous family and community events conducted on the grounds of the nature sanctuary.
In 2013, NVE’s Closter Branch established a relationship with The Junction, a program that teaches functional living and occupational skills to students between the ages of 18 and 21 with physical, emotional or learning challenges. NVE staff teach monthly classes to the students, covering financial management topics such as responsible use of credit cards, starting a savings program, managing bills, and budgeting money.
With millions of New Jersey residents impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, NVE launched a fundraising initiative, pledging to match donations made to the bank on behalf of the Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund. In April 2013, President Rob Rey was pleased to present the Fund’s Chairwoman, NJ First Lady Mary Pat Christie, with a check in the amount of $15,000 to aid long term recovery and rebuilding efforts across the state.
On April 27, 2013, NVE participated in National Rebuilding Day by sponsoring a project at the Center for Food Action in Englewood, NJ. In addition to a $6,000 contribution from the Bank, 19 NVE Volunteers completed improvement projects to the center, which works to prevent hunger and homelessness to Bergen County families in need.
Habitat for Humanity
NVE Bank was pleased to support Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County in its mission to provide affordable housing for low income families. Bank employees volunteered for two days at a site in Oradell, helping to build four three-bedroom homes. NVE also made a $2,000 monetary contribution to Habitat, serving as a primary sponsor for their fall fundraising event.
NVE supported the goal of home ownership for low- to moderate-income borrowers in New Jersey by purchasing FNMA mortgage-backed securities in the amount of $1,275,424.
