Don’t Worry, Be “Appy”: Shopping Apps to Help You Save

Regardless of the topic at hand, as the ubiquitous, Apple®-coined catchphrase goes, you can be almost certain that “There’s an app for that™.” Savings is no exception! These four apps each offer convenient ways to save money, not to mention a number of added benefits.

RetailMeNot

You can visit the website, www.retailmenot.com, anytime for promo codes, discount offers, coupons, and other deals that can save you money both online and in stores. But for more savings, download the RetailMeNot app for free on iTunes® or Google PlayTM and you can receive notifications for deals at nearby stores based on your geographic location! You can also view a map that shows all the deals closest to you at any given time. How’s that for convenience?

You’re probably making a food shopping list anyway — why not take it to your area store that’s offering the best prices and deals on those items? Enter Grocery Pal, which notifies shoppers of weekly savings and sales at various stores nationwide. While the app may not include information on smaller, independent stores like Market Basket in Wyckoff or Cafasso’s Fairway Market in Fort Lee, it does feature many leading supermarkets, retailers, and pharmacies. You can even redeem digital coupons with the app! Simply make your list and choose your desired store; if something is less expensive at another store, the app will let you know. Available for free on iTunes and Google Play.

ShopAdvisor

Cross referencing pricing is a time-consuming, though important task, especially on big ticket items. This is where an app like ShopAdvisor can come in handy. With it, you can keep tabs on the price of an item and you’ll even receive an alert if and when that price drops! Available for free on iTunes and Google Play.

Santa’s Bag

For the gift that keeps on giving, look no further than Santa’s Bag — the virtual kind, not the velvet one. According to the New York Times, “Santa’s Bag is a smart shopping list manager for iPhone® with a Christmas twist.” This app will help you track your gift list progress, set a budget for each recipient, organize gifts by store to avoid multiple trips, and more. Free on iTunes.

Now, what can you do with all the money saved by using these apps? At NVE Bank, we offer our customers a number of options to fit their lives. Saving for your child’s education? A Coverdell Education Savings Account is a good place to start. Want to set yourself up for retirement? We’ll help you determine whether a Traditional or Roth IRA account is the best fit for you. And while having a savings account is an essential part of managing your finances, different features suit different people’s needs. For example, our Super Saver Account offers a higher variable rate of interest than our regular Statement Savings account, which appeals to serious savers looking for a better return on their money.

The bottom line is that there are many, many ways to save. You just need to know where to look! Keep checking our blog for tips on saving, earning, planning, and much more!
